Round Top Round Up

Updated: May 24, 2021

I have lived in Texas most of my life and have heard people rave about the Round Top, Texas Antique show but it wasn’t until this year that I got to experience it for myself. Let me tell you; it absolutely lived up to its reputation!

There is so much to see and do that Round Top can start feeling very intimidating and overwhelming. Here is a guide so you can leave your trip with a happy heart and car full of new items!

What to bring:

- Walking shoes// I am all about style but when it comes to exploring all Round Top has to offer, go for comfort! Your feet will thank you!

- A measuring tape// Here is the one I ordered off Amazon!

- CASH! // A lot of vendors only accept cash and you won’t want to drive the whole way home thinking about what could have been yours!

- A small cross body bag or fanny pack// You don’t want to carry a large purse on your shoulder all day (trust me, I made that mistake on the first day).

- Water and snacks// Make sure to stay hydrated and well fed. There is a lot to see and do and you don’t want to waste time searching for food or water.

- A plan!// It’s easy to get distracted upon arrival so do some research ahead of time to prioritize vendors that interest you. Also, make sure to book reservations for lunch and/or dinner! Restaurants book up fast!

Where to stay:

Farmstead: This modern farmhouse is where we called home during our Round Top stay. They offer seven guest rooms and one 2-bedroom cottage. We stayed in the Outpost which had a queen size bed, daybed with a trundle and a kitchenette. It was tucked away off FM 954 but was an easy walk to the antique shops off FM 237. The room was extremely clean and offered a convenient and delicious breakfast every morning. If you want to wind down with a glass of wine, there was a nice firepit with plenty of seating. Book ahead of time; there is limited space it and books up quickly!

The Frenchie: This 1890s farmhouse is within walking distance to antique shops and tents. This Instagram-worthy hotel offers a modern spin on their rooms with pops of color and unique pieces.

Round Top Inn: This 1880s farmhouse was home to a cigar factory for nearly 50 years. The charming rooms are centrally located and within walking distance to shops.

Where to eat:

Manditos: This is a cozy Mexican food restaurant with a great patio and refreshing margaritas. You will want to get there early as there is almost always a wait. The owners are the same family who own Armando’s in Houston.

The Garden Company: We went here for lunch and not only is their food delicious, it has some of the coolest décor inside. If you are looking for a large patio to enjoy some sunshine, this place is for you!

Prost on Block 29: If you are looking for a wine bar, look no further! Prost on Block 29 has a quaint patio that is perfect for enjoying some wine and a charcuterie board.

Lulu's: If you are looking for a date night or nice dinner out, call and make a reservation now! They are the hot spot in town and book up fast! If you aren’t able to get a reservation ahead of time, they have the cutest bar with black and white checker floors and amazing cocktails! Their food is incredible - from the pizza to the lobster ravioli, you really can’t go wrong!

Royers Round Top Café: We didn’t get to stop here but it was a popular response when asking around for recommendations. I was told their pies are to die for!

Top Shops to Visit:

Junk Gypsy: You may know them from the popular HGTV show, Junk Gypsy. There store is a must when visiting Round Top. Their store oozes creativity and offers everything from trinkets to full-sized furniture.

Marburger Farm: This is a destination stop you won’t want to miss! They have been around for nearly 20 years and have over 300 dealers who bring the best of the best from all over the world. As a heads up, there is an admission fee that ranges from $10-$25.

The Compound: There isn’t much you can’t find here. It spans 57 acres and hosts several expert dealers. Anything from rugs, jewelry and larger antiques can be found here.

Big Red Barn: Fun fact: the Big Red Barn claims to be the site of the first Round Top Antique fair. They have been hosting the top antique experts for nearly 50 years and is nothing short of amazing inside! Bring your walking shoes because you won’t want to miss an inch of this 30,000 square foot tent.

Blue Hills: With 80,000 square feet of shopping and 50 vendors, this is a shopper’s dream! Free parking and restrooms are an added bonus!
